The Prestigious Costa Book of the Year has been announced!
The Irish writer, Sebastian Barry who previously won the £30,000 prize in 2008 with The Secret Scripture has become the first novelist to win the Costa Book of the Year prize twice with his new novel Days Without End.
Days without End is a historical fiction set in the 1850s and tells the story of two Irish soldiers who go to fight in the US.
The judges described the book as “a searing, magnificent and moving description of how the West was won”.
At the beginning of January, Barry’s novel was named as one of the five Costa category winners alongside the other prizes for first novel, poetry, children’s book and biography
